While there may be less writing of Holy Barre posts this summer, here are some other ‘-ing’ recommendations I’ve been enjoy-ing!
Reading
I do not consider myself a ‘reader’ as I prefer Audible and rarely read anything fiction, but this summer I’ve set a goal to expand my library. Here are some recent books that are each different yet equally enjoyable and interesting.
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid – a intriguing fictional story about a California family that’s written in layers of stories of generational trauma and self-discovery. (Note: this book is real-life with drinking, sex, adultery, death, etc. Heads up if those are triggers for you.)
Blooming Bare by Morgan Richard Olivier – a reflective book written in a more poetic style that allows you to read and relate in spurts. Whether the page has just four lines or four paragraphs, her thoughts are insightful.
Star for Jesus (And Other Jobs I Quit) by Kimberly Stuart – funny and faith-based nonfiction book that challenges our grasp of grace and encourages freedom and joy in the mess of life.

The Book of Psalms – I’ve so appreciated the book of Psalms in this season with its emotional and relevant writing. Big thanks to King David and his crew for being real!
The Book of John – Every chapter of this book contains powerful and relational truth about our King. I’ve been camped out in this book for a while now, enjoying the refreshing and life-giving message of love, truth, grace, and freedom He desires for us.
Listening
We’re always listening to something . . . let’s be intentional with what we play! Here are some of my favs lately.
Meghan Trainor’s Latest Album: Timeless – not all songs are for little ears, but all make you want to smile and dance around! Love her style and sass!
Maverick City Music’s Latest Album: The Maverick Way Reimagined – this album contains some new songs as well as remixed versions of classics. So great!
Daily Bread by Pat Barrett & Kari Jobe – as someone who has felt ‘in the wilderness’ for much longer than desired, I’ve frequently needed a reminder of His daily provision and faithfulness. So seeing this new release sure brought comfort and joy!
The Jess Connolly Podcast – there is rarely an episode that I don’t find relatable and refreshing. Each conversation is a valuable combo of encouragement and challenge.

Moving
Moving in love is worship to me! And it’s health benefits fair exceed the physical – being active helps me connect with the Lord, process the emotions, release the lies, and focus on the truth. Moving also releases valuable hormones to make us feel better!
Pickleball is my family’s latest way to play! We’ve turned our driveway into a pickleball court and spend most evenings hitting the ball back and forth. My hubby and I just joined a local league too! Come join the fun!

Holy Barre continues to meet all summer at All Fit Collective during our normal times of Tuesdays at 6pm and Thursdays at 10am. You’ll recognize some of us as well at Yahweh Yoga on Fridays at 11:30am as we’re subbing for Lori over the summer! Come move in love with us!
For those traveling or spending more time at home this summer, don’t forget about Holy Barre on YouTube!

Wearing
Finding your summer style can be tricky! Here are some pretty yet practical finds.

My husband and I have added a lot more linen to our closets as the temps rise outside. We’ve found some really fun options that help keep us cooler and covered these hot summer days while still feeling a little more in style!
This fun and functional and fairly inexpensive one-piece on Amazon always gets a ton of compliments. I’ve seen it on a variety of body types and sizes, and all love it! There are lots of colors and patterns to pick from! Click here to shop!

Eating & Drinking
Summer is typically not the ideal time to create lots of structure around eating and drinking, so here are some fun ideas to keep you fueled well!

My daughter has enjoyed making smoothies these past few weeks and has tested a variety of recipe combinations. It’s a fun way to get some good stuff in us while also being creative and independent!
GreenSynergy Elixir is my daily hack to mix into my non-structured summer eating and drinking! One packet added to a bottle of water promotes health for your skin, hair, gut, and body overall!

Carajillo is a yummy cocktail for these long and hot summer days! It’s simply a combination of espresso or coffee and licor 43 and tastes like an iced latte with a kick! The strength and proportions are up to you!
That’s it for now, Friends! Comment below with any of your summer recommendations!
