Whether you are relaxing at a beach resort with your husband or trying to quickly get two crazy kids ready for bed or spending way too much time on the phone and at a car shop navigating vehicle repairs, the Lord desires for you to find rest in Him. And the past two weeks have provided me the opportunity to experience it all!
Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.
Hebrews 3:1
We experience His rest through faith. Faith in Jesus as greater than the angels, greater than any priest, greater than Moses. Hebrews 1-3 presents the case to remind us of Jesus’ power and supremacy. Hebrews 4 also reminds us of the power found in His Word. Jesus is greater than all. There is nothing hidden from God. His Word and Spirit are alive and active in us. And through our faith, we can rest in the Lord alone. Regardless of our circumstances, we can find peace and joy beyond understanding in Christ!
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:12-13
The most beautiful closing to this portion of Scripture and gospel truth overall is found in verse 16. So knowing and believing ALL of this about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit, He invites us to approach His throne with ALL we are – the good, the bad, and the ugly. And as we pursue Him with confidence, we’ll receive mercy, grace, and help!
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
hebrews 4:16
So as we move our bodies in worship, may our breathing and posture communicate our faith, rest, and confidence in our High Priest and King of Kings. Once again, flow with this scripture, Hebrews 4:16, as many times as your spirit needs.
